Michael Jordan has purchased Air Jordan’s, T-shirts and sweats for the Laney High School basketball team annually for decades. Jordan played basketball at Laney, graduating in 1981.

Since 1985, he has sponsored the Michael J. Jordan Scholarship, $2,500 annually awarded to a pair of Laney seniors. The first recipients were Willie Allen and Sheila Wilson.

Jordan also has contributed time and money to the Wilmington Community Boys and Girls Club. And in October 2007, he paid a surprise visit during the Charlotte Bobcats’ dedication to a new reading room at the Boys and Girls Club. Jordan is the current majority owner of the Bobcats NBA franchise.

And finally, Jordan has had the Bobcats conduct training camp at Trask Coliseum at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the past.
