According to Wilmington Downtown Inc. Director John Hinnant, joggers, walkers and runners of all types and speeds are allowed and encouraged on the Wilmington Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is included as part of the East Coast Greenway, a 1990s project to link the entire East Coast via urban paths.

As far as liability for collisions, Hinnant said he didn’t think the city could be held liable for collision injuries, but Hinnant advised runners to be careful of the other foot traffic on the Riverwalk – especially large groups.
