The gymnasium at Laney High School is named the Michael Jordan Gymnasium. Jordan, of course, played his high school basketball at Laney. There is also an athletic scholarship at Laney that bears his name. The Cape Fear Museum also houses the Michael Jordan Discovery Gallery, an area where young people can learn about the Cape Fear’s environment. The Michael Jordan Foundation contributed money to the museum, and the museum includes a display case with some memorabilia from Jordan’s time in Wilmington.
Meadowlark Lemon is honored on the Walk of Fame in downtown Wilmington. But there are no buildings, streets or courts named after Lemon. Lemon brought his Harlem All-Stars to Cape Fear Community College in 2011. He has since established the Meadowlark Lemon Scholarship for a CFCC basketball player.
