The City of Wilmington studied the Windemere neighborhood in 2005. The Neighborhood Traffic Management Plan for Windemere recommends the installation of one or two speed bumps or other traffic-calming measures on the portion of Monument Drive in Mayfaire that runs behind the theater (from the roundabout at Town Center Drive to the roundabout at Wells Court), which is slated to be a public road whenever the Mayfaire developers go through the process to dedicate it to the city and the city accepts it, said Mike Kozlosky, executive director of the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

“Once the street has been accepted, the city would then move to install one or two speed bumps or some other type of traffic-calming device in that area,” Kozlosky said.

Monument Drive will be considered for acceptance when the developer requests that the city accept the street, he said.

“To date, this request for acceptance has not occurred,” Kozlosky said.

Anytime you install a speed hump or bump you slow the response of emergency vehicles. If you don’t think a minute will make a difference then hold your face under water for a minute.

Why is the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization, an advisory group, commenting on what is a city issue?
