Warren Lee, New Hanover County emergency management director, said the reader question is a timely one “that concerns every emergency manager across the country as our population continues to grow.”
“Basic recovery functions are addressed in our New Hanover County Emergency Operations Plan, however, we’re undertaking development of an enhanced, stand-alone recovery plan as one of our departmental goals in FY 2012,” Lee said.
“As your reader points out, we’re reminded often by Mother Nature that infrastructure improvements haven’t necessarily kept up with the rapid growth in our population. We work hand in hand with our public safety and public service partners in New Hanover County to ensure the safety of our citizens whenever natural or man-made hazards threaten,” Lee said.
