Columns across from the Kenan Fountain at Fifth Avenue and Market Street were damaged in an wreck. The city is having replicas made. (StarNews photo by Ken Blevins)
The columns are part of a city-owned and maintained plaza, said Malissa Talbert, city of Wilmington spokeswoman.
“The area was damaged recently when a car hit it. The columns are historical in nature and made of limestone. A company that specializes in this type of work is making hand-made replicas of the damaged materials, which will take several months to manufacture,” Talbert said.
The city anticipates the replicas and repairs to be completed by late October 2011, she said.
