The purpose of water fountains in Carolina Beach Lake is two-fold, said Brian Stanberry, director of public works for Carolina Beach.
The primary reason is aeration of the water. “Due to the shallow depths and minimal flow, the oxygen levels in the water remain relatively low,” he said. “The fountains circulate the water and help aerate it, which in turn is helpful for aquatic life and water quality.”
Also, the fountains provide aesthetic qualities for the lake, which is on the town’s main thoroughfare and is a popular place to run or host town events.
