N.C. Department of Transportation records show that not all of the roads within the Marsh Oaks subdivision are in the state system, N.C. DOT spokeswoman Tammy Stewart said.
The “typical” speed limit for subdivisions is 35 mph, she said.
“In certain cases, we can consider smaller subdivisions, of 100 homes or less, with all of the roads being state-maintained, to be lowered to a subdivision-wide 25 miles per hour speed limit. Unfortunately, the Marsh Oaks subdivision would not qualify at this time,” Stewart said.
In general, residents requesting a speed limit change on a street should contact their local N.C. DOT office. To find the nearest office, go to www.ncdot.org.
