Brian Berger passed the Certified Association Executive exam in December 2009 and became a certified CAE in January 2010, according to a spokeswoman for The Center for Association Leadership, which administers the 200-item multiple-choice exam twice a year.

“The CAE program identifies those who have demonstrated that they have the knowledge to serve as the chief staff executive of a nonprofit of any type, any scope, or any size,” the spokeswoman, Sabrina Kidwai, said in an emailed response to questions.

Berger confirmed that he passed the CAE exam. He added that he refers to himself as a “nonprofit executive” instead of an “association executive” because association is often equated with homeowner associations.

Has he ever actually led a non-profit? or simply only passed the above mentioned certification? If not, then it appears disingenuous for him to suggest he is a non-profit executive if he has, for example, never actually BEEN an executive at a non-profit.
