What happens to the outdated advertising displays in ABC stores?

The ultimate destination of displays depends on what kind of material they are made of, said Gary Cain, retail operations manager for New Hanover County’s Alcoholic Beverage Control stores.

“We would do our best to recycle it,” he said.

For example, a display made mostly out of metal may end up in the trash if the distributor doesn’t want it back and it can’t be recycled, Cain said.

“We have a lot of Dumpster diving going on,” he added about those kinds of materials.

ABC stores also are popular places for people to get cardboard boxes, which they give out for free, Cain said.
