Are Wilmington firefighters allowed to drink alcohol while in uniform?

“The answer is basically no,” said David Hines, a spokesman for the Wilmington Fire Department. “We would expect our firefighters, if in uniform, to not be drinking alcohol.”

Firefighters wear dress uniforms, or “Class As,” for ceremonies like funerals, graduations, promotions or 9/11 remembrances.

Hines suggested the questioner could have seen out-of-town firefighters in the area, as Wilmington firefighters have not had a need to be in dress uniform for nearly two months.
