Rob Hill, along with Scott Davis and Richard Sirianni, have done a lot of research on Robert E. Harrill, better known as the Fort Fisher Hermit. The trio created a 2004 documentary on Harrill called “The Fort Fisher Hermit: The Life and Death of Robert E. Harrill,” which aired on PBS. Hill was the writer/director/editor of the Common Sense Films production.
Hill said the reburial in Carolina Beach in 1989 was paid for by Harrill’s son, Edward. The grave is just outside the main cemetery at Federal Point Methodist Church Cemetery, according to FindAGrave.com, and surrounded by sea shells.
