The N.C. Department of Transportation is still considering alternatives on where to construct the bypass, N.C. DOT spokeswoman Tammy Stewart said.
There is a website that details various aspects of the project.
Six alternatives for the U.S. 17 corridor study are still being considered, according to a September 2010 project newsletter contained on the website.
“These six alternatives will be presented to the public at a hearing to be held in early 2011,” the newsletter states.
The state is not in any rush to begin the job.
“Construction for this project is currently unfunded. It is expected funds would be available and construction would begin after 2020,” according to the newsletter.
There is a toll-free project information line: 1-866-841-4420. Call between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.
