What happened to the Hardee’s hen?

Cece Nunn

This question begs another question: Why did the chicken cross the road?

The beloved Hardee’s hen, who had been hanging out at the Hardee’s on Carolina Beach Road for several months, was stolen after walking, for some unknown reason, to the McDonald’s across the busy five-lane road.

Marilyn Johnson, general manager of the Hardee’s at 2518 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington [Map this], said restaurant employees saw someone putting the hen into a vehicle. And while they yelled to stop the person, the noise of traffic drowned their pleadings.

The hen’s human friends miss her, Johnson said. Customers ask about her all the time.

“We think about that chicken every day,” Johnson said.
