That is a development by Rockford Residential, according to New Hanover County planning officials.
The property is located at the end of Rock Hill Road, which is near Castle Hayne Road in the northwestern part of the county. It is zoned R-20, which allows Rockford Residential to build on 52 lots. The development was approved in 2009 as part of the Sunset Reach Performance Residential subdivision.
The developers recently requested a rezoning of the land from low-density to medium-density residential. By rezoning to medium-density residential, developers will be allowed to build 16 more units on the property. The request was unanimously approved by the planning board April 7, 2011. No one spoke in opposition of the request and county staff is recommending approval. It was supposed to be heard by the county commissioners in May 2011, but the vote was continued by request of the developers.
The board will now hear the matter during its July 11, 2011, meeting.
