Yes there is. It is the Cape Fear Lacrosse Club for men 18 and older. It is a leisurely league with no specific schedule. Practices are minimal. The contacts are Trey McGirt and John Maphis, who took over the 10-year-old club about four years ago. Participants are mostly college aged and the team has played at several locations over the years, from Wrightsville Beach Park to the Cape Fear Rugby Field.
The team’s current games are at Cape Fear Academy’s turf field. They face teams from Charlotte, Raleigh and Myrtle Beach mostly when they play.
The club recently participated in a tournament at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and finished runner up to the Seahawks’ club team.
“We just have a bunch of guys who just still like to play,’’ Maphis said.
The club plans to compete in the State Games of North Carolina in June 2011.
More information about the club is available via email: capefearlacrosse@yahoo.com.
