Which New Hanover County schools have interim principals or assistant principals?

Amanda Greene

Interim principals are different from assistant principals.

Interim principals are individuals who take over when a principal moves or goes to another position within the system. This school year, there is an interim principal at Sunset Park Elementary School. At Sunset Park, Principal LaChawn Smith was moved to a priority schools coach position funded through the federal Race To The Top money for New Hanover County. Assistant Principal Jakki Jethro is the interim principal there for now.

There are 52 assistant principals at 24 elementary, eight middle and four high schools in the district. With the coming state budget cuts, New Hanover County schools is considering cutting three assistant principal positions and two weeks of employment for all 10-month assistant principals, which would be the equivalent of two positions.
