Will Verizon be offering cable service in the Wilmington area?

Wayne Faulkner

Verizon Communications does not offer cable or Internet services in Wilmington because it sold its land line operations in 14 states, including North Carolina, said Sandra Arnette, company spokeswoman.

Among those states are South Carolina and West Virginia in the Southeast.

Verizon Wireless, which has a call center in Wilmington, is a separate company and is not involved in cable services, said Karen Schulz, spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless in the Carolinas and Tennessee.

ergo, we are stuck with an unregulated monopoly for cable service. No wonder our rates seem to go up and up and up.

Just in case you may not know, any digital TV can receive HD local Channels via rabbit ears or some variation thereof. I have a home made antenna on my Vizio HD TV and can pick up 14 Channels in the Hampstead area including UNC TV. Works great for me.
