My parents were married in 1937 at Edgewood in Wilmington. What was Edgewood?

Edgewood was a suburb of Wrightsville, according to Hill’s Wilmington City Directory of 1938 (which was only published in even-numbered years in the 1930s).

The exact listing is “Edgewood – A suburb of Wrightsville tpk [turnpike] bey [beyond] Idlewild, opp [opposite] Winter Park.”

Currently, Edgewood Road is in a residential area of the city about five minutes away from Independence Mall.

Perhaps the 1937 wedding took place at a home in that Wrightsville suburb. If anyone knows of a facility or other place called Edgewood where such a wedding might be held, please post a comment below.

I believe there is a small subdivision off of Airlie Road near where it curves when it meets the Intracoastal Waterway. It could have been named for a previous location or landmark.

I believe the area near Airlie Road was called Edgewater (not Edgewood) thus the Edgewater ( mansion) Club on the left past the sharp curve.

The mansion on Airlie Road is not the Edgewater Club. The Edgewater Club was on Edgewater Club Road where the Figure 8 Harbor condos are now located, approaching the bridge to Figure Eight Island. The mansion on Airlie Road is occupied by the Bean family and was never a club.

The Bean home on Airlie is not Edgewater. Edgewater estate is next door, featuring an historic home purchased by John C. Drewry, then sold to physician Don Getz, then sold again, sited at the entrance to a community of more-recent Edgewater residences.
