The door at 703 N. Front Street

When Alley, Register and McEachern, a Wilmington law firm, purchased the Strauss Building at 701 N. Fourth St., Wilmington [Map this], in late 2007, people, particularly in the neighborhood asked them to leave the door as is because they thought it was neat. They believe it was the creation of artists, a previous inhabitant of the building.

“We thought it seemed to draw attention to the building,’’ said Anthony Register, one of the lawyers.

The refrigerator door leads to Strauss Condominium, an expansive New York-style flat of approximately 1,500 square feet.

The building was erected in 1914.

To my recollection the fridge door dates to when that space was NoFo, aka the North Fourth Gallery, in the late ’90s. They used to have art shows there before moving out to the Landfall area and becoming more food-oriented.
