The Concerned Citizens of Oak Island is a group of local residents concerned about rising costs of the sewer system being installed in the town in 2011.
Group members attended several town council meetings and publicly asked for a third-party audit of the sewer system budget. Now group members are circulating a petition asking for the audit.
Ted Bodenschatz of Concerned Citizens of Oak Island said anyone is welcome to contact him at (910) 278-1799. He said he will be glad to meet with residents so they can sign the petition. Fellow group member Carol Painter also is available to meet with residents. Her telephone number is (910) 278-5691.
The group does not have a website or even officers, but Bodenschatz said the members are open to new participants.
“We’re a very loosely organized group,” he said. “We’re not trying to be any kind of political force. We just want to make sure our government is responsive.”
