The widening of Kerr Avenue to “a multi-lane facility” is currently a funded project in the Transportation Improvement Program overseen by the N.C. Department of Transportation, spokeswoman Tammy Stewart said.
The project will be completed between 2016 and 2020.
“Therefore, we are currently maintaining the roadway section by patching,” she said. “If the department did asphalt resurfacing at this time, it would be an extreme cost in the short term for a few years, rather than a 10- to 12-year asphalt life because of the upcoming TIP project.”
“Resurfacing now would compromise the roadway,” Stewart said.
