The city of Wilmington researched the stretch of road over the last few weeks of January 2011, spokeswoman Malissa Talbert said.
“The primary depression in the pavement of Wellington is at the intersection with Silver Stream. There is a storm drainage system at this location that has groundwater infiltrating through joints within the pipes and manhole,” Talbert said.
The city’s Stormwater Services Division will call in an underground utility locate request for the intersection to plan for the installation of a sub-drainage system that will alleviate the groundwater pressure, she said.
“Once the utilities have been located, we will get the sub-drainage installed and the city’s streets division will assist by getting the pavement resurfaced for smoother travel. Depending on where the unknown utilities are, this work should take no more than four weeks to complete,” Talbert said.
