The Middle Sound paving project is part of a larger project connecting properties to the sewer system in the Middle Sound area, said Carey Disney Ricks, spokeswoman for the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.
“The repaving schedule was dependent upon the successful and timely connection to the system by area residents,” Ricks said. “Repaving efforts to occur prior to a majority connection would require cuts into newly paved roadways and would prove inefficient and costly.”
As part of the paving phase, Ricks said CFPUA awarded a $1.8 million contract to Barnhill Construction for resurfacing “certain roads” in the Middle Sound area.
Barnhill will perform milling and patch work in some areas beginning in February 2011, followed by street resurfacing starting in mid-March 2011.
Paving schedules are dependent on weather conditions, Ricks said. Asphalt specifications “generally set weather and temperature limitations with production and application halted in extreme cold weather,” she said.
Sections of public roads scheduled to be resurfaced include Anaca Point Drive, Bailey Avenue, Bedford Road East and West, Boone Lane, Buckeye Drive, Canady Road, Claire Wood Court, Cores Court, Darden Road, Dunbar Road, Dunn Place, Friday Drive, Glen Arbor Drive, Hawk Road, Hess Street, Hitch Court, Kings Court, Land Line Drive, Londonberry Drive, Long John Silver Drive, Lonicera Court, Ludlow Drive, Lyonia Court, Mark Twain Drive and Mason Landing Road,.
Also, North Bend Drive, North Hills Drive, Pages Creek Road, Parliament Drive, Pioneer Court, Purple Martin Court, Queens Court, Rain Tree Court, Red Cedar Road, Robert Stevenson Drive, Salt Brick Court, Sandybrook Road, South Branch Drive, Stonehead Court, Sussex Court, Treasure Island Way, Trelawney Court, Wellington Drive, Wendover Lane and York Court.
Private roads to be resurfaced include Cale Court, Charles Langdon Road, Chewning Street, Epling Drive, Field View Road (road reconstruction), Hayfield Court, Hearn Drive, Hervey Lane, Janice Lane, Long John Silver Court, Old Field Road, Randy Place, Turner Nursery Road/Deep Creek Run and Waylon Road.

I live on Field View Road. We have been told for years the road would be fixed. It’s February 26th and Barnhill was supposed to do patching, etc. in February. The resurfacing is for mid-March – well we’re already behind. What is the newest schedule? Soon we may just disappear in the potholes – they’ve become so deep!
