Why are the manhole covers on Princess Place Drive raised 2 inches above street level?

Ken Little

That section of Princess Place Drive and Grace Street from 16th Street to Market Street has been prepared for resurfacing, said Kerry Cross, N.C. Department of Transportation resident engineer.

Manhole and water valve castings have been raised by 1-1/2 inches in most of that section of road in preparation “for the planned 1-1/2 inches of resurfacing,” Cross said.

The resurfacing was scheduled to begin this week, but the contractor was delayed due to weather conditions, Cross said.

Resurfacing should begin on Dec. 13, 2010, he said.

The contractor on that section of roadway is Barnhill Contracting Co. Cross said any concerns should be forwarded to Barnhill at (910) 754-7177.
