Why have the ACC and John Swofford been so quiet on the UNC football investigation?

The answer is simple. Neither John Swofford nor anyone else at the ACC office have commented on the University of North Carolina situation because the case is still ongoing. For them to jump to conclusions or make rash statements before all the facts are in would be like a lawyer commenting publicly on a case while it’s still being tried. And we all remember how well that worked out for Mike Nifong.

Once the investigation is complete, the NCAA returns its findings and hands down whatever punishment it deems appropriate — which probably won’t happen until next spring or summer. I think you will see Swofford and the ACC act in much the same way they did in the aftermath of other investigations.

Though fans who want quick action may accuse Swofford of being “biased” toward UNC because of his lack of response to this point, he is actually being professional in withholding his judgment until the appropriate time.
