When will Independence Boulevard be extended from Randall Parkway to Martin Luther King Boulevard?

The Independence Boulevard extension from Randall Parkway to the Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway is the No. 3 priority on the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization‘s adopted prioritized list of needs behind the Wilmington Bypass and Cape Fear Skyway, MPO Executive Director Mike Kozlosky said.

“Independence Boulevard extension is currently in the planning and environmental phases of development. Independence Boulevard is identified in North Carolina General Statute 136-180 Urban Loops and is a ‘loop’ fund eligible project,” Kozlosky said.

The N.C. Department of Transportation recently prioritized the North Carolina “loop” fund eligible projects and identified Independence Boulevard extension in the work program for funding in 2020, he said.
