Are there any plans to extend the time the light stays green for Medical Center Drive at Carolina Beach Road?

Ken Little

The signal is maintained by the City of Wilmington and is part of a new signal system upgrade that was recently completed by the city, N.C. Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tammy Stewart said.

“All of the signal timing that was part of this upgrade is being evaluated and re-timed as needed. The maximum green light time is 15 seconds, which allows about seven to 10 cars to make the turn if traffic is moving smoothly,” Stewart said.

She said Carolina Beach Road carries the most traffic volume and, according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the road with the highest traffic volume will receive the most signal time.
