Last week’s rain totals exceeded 21 inches and was the second most on record per event since 1870, she said, causing roadway flooding throughout the area.
“There is one location that N.C. DOT will be performing a ditch operation at to help lessen the frequency and duration of the roadway flooding; however, there are other locations that are naturally low areas without a positive outlet until a rim elevation is reached,” Garifo said. “In those areas the water historically collects and either evaporates or infiltrates into the ground and is anticipated to experience periodic flooding.”
