When will the movie ‘Waiting for Superman’ be screened in Wilmington?

Ben Steelman

Good question, and we wish we knew the answer.

The acclaimed documentary “Waiting for Superman” by director Davis Guggenheim (“An Inconvenient Truth”), about problems in the American education system, officially went into limited release on Sept. 24, 2010, and “wide” release on Oct. 8, 2010. Since then, its distributor, Paramount Vantage, appears to be following a “rolling release” strategy, opening slowly in a few markets at a time, to take full advantage of the media “buzz” about the picture.

Mary Bradley of public radio station WHQR said its Cinematique film series is trying vigorously to book “Waiting for Superman,” but that Southeastern distribution is a little confused. At one point, it looked as if the film would open at the Regal Mayfaire Stadium 16, then Paramount Vantage seemed to “pull” it from North Carolina movie markets. Bradley said she hopes “Waiting for Superman” could be scheduled in December 2010, but nothing is definite at this time.
