Where can I launch a kayak or canoe on the ICW?

Amy Hotz
StarNews

There are several places to launch a kayak or canoe on the Intracoastal Waterway.

New Hanover County’s Trail’s End boat ramp officially opened this past year. It’s located on the ICW across from Masonboro Island.

All of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission boat launches on the ICW are listed here.

Kayaks and canoes do not require the space or the infrastructure that motorboats do, so there may be other spots near bridges and on public lands that are suitable, too.

Please use official boat ramps for this purpose The owner of the waterfront property on Airlie Road does not wish boaters to use her property for launching (and fishing and swimming) because too many cars are congregating there and causing a hazard, leaving debris, and rutting the shoulders of the road. People do not realize this is private property, but it is. Further encroachment will necessitate closing it off.
