Is it legal for people to hang out around convenience stores?

Brian Freskos

That is at the store owner’s discretion, said New Hanover County District Court Judge Rebecca Blackmore. It’s legal to hang out at the convenience store unless the owner asks you to leave or if the store posts in some way that they don’t want people loitering outside.

Also, drinking alcohol outside a convenience store is illegal unless the store has an ABC license that allows on-site alcohol consumption.
