Is anything going to be done about the new asphalt pavement on Independence Boulevard? Cars have to swerve to avoid manhole covers

Roadwork is not complete on the Independence Boulevard widening project that runs from Shipyard Boulevard to Carolina Beach Road, city of Wilmington spokesman Dylan Lee said.

“The road is still under construction. Currently, the base layer of asphalt is in place and the manholes are in place, set to the final height of the road,” Lee said.

An additional layer of asphalt will be laid in “the coming weeks” to bring the road surface up to the height of the manhole covers, he said.

The work should be complete by late October 2010.

Obviously whoever asked this question hasn’t been driving too long. This is routine for road crews. Did they really beleive that this is completed work? Geez…

Oh no, the road is finished. That is why you don’t see orange cones or construction equipment out there any longer. Really? You had to ask?
