Has the Greenfield Grind Skate Park had any lawsuits or insurance claims since it opened? Also how much does its annual insurance premium cost?

According to Amy Beatty, interim recreation superintendent, there have been no lawsuits or insurance claims filed against the City of Wilmington’s Greenfield Grind Skate Park.

And, according to city spokeswoman Malissa Talbert, the park does not have its own, separate insurance policy. All city properties are covered together in a blanket plan, she said.

In the name, Greenfield Grind Skatepark, what does “Grind” mean? Why not just “Greenfield Skatepark”?

A grind is a type of skateboarding action. It refers to when one slides along a curb, railing or some other edge using the trucks (think axles) of the skateboard. Grinding, to some, is a nuisance as the metal trucks of the skateboard leave marks and often damage property in the way of scratching railings or causing curbs to wear down or even crack and break. This is one reason that many have banned skateboarding in some areas. The word may have been included in the name of the park in an effort to reach out to skaters to let them know that this is a place where they can come grind.

Greenfield Grind is a wonderful place for children of all ages to hang out and get physical exercise through skateboarding. It is well supervised. Helmet use is enforced to limit the number of injuries.

Bill, thanks for the answer — obviously I’m not a skateboarder, but am curious and like to learn.
