Whatever happened to the traffic light that was supposed to be installed at Carolina Beach and River roads?

Design work on the project is almost complete and a contractor will begin work soon, says Joseph Chance, N.C. Department of Transportation deputy division traffic engineer.

“I cannot give an approximate date, but I am trying to have this signal installed and working by mid- to late September,” Chance says.

That section of roadway is part of a project that addresses median crossovers from Snow’s Cut Bridge to George Anderson Drive, Chance said earlier this year.

The project involves the installation of two new traffic signals, including the one at Carolina Beach Road and River Road/Sea Breeze Road. The other will be installed at Carolina Beach Road and Silver Lake Road.

Other crossovers with the corridor “will be closed or converted to a directional left U-turn movement,” Chance said.

Will be glad to see the one at Seabreeze. It’s been needed for several years, it’s such a dangerous intersection. And it will also be beneficial during hurricanes and for DUI traffic stops!
