Yes, the town of Carolina Beach purchased the properties where Surfside Motor Lodge and the Guy Johnson Motel are located along Carolina Beach Avenue. The purchase was made through an auction for the sale of the former Arcadius project. The hotels are still in operation and leasing the property from the town of Carolina Beach, but the town has partnered with the N.C. Aquariums division of the state to build a pier, parking lots and park there. They expect the pier to be built within five years if the aquariums division can secure funding.
