When will the new Ocean Isle Beach park open?

Shelby Sebens

Brunswick County parks officials are hoping to open the new Ocean Isle Beach park by the July Fourth weekend.

The park is on Georgetown Road and will include playground equipment, eight tennis courts, a 300-seat amphitheater, restrooms, parking and five acres of multipurpose fields.

The park was originally scheduled to open in October, but construction stalled when the contractor on the project, Weaver Co. Inc., of Conway, S.C., went bankrupt. Work has resumed and the park is nearly complete.
