The horses used by Wilmington police officers, which are often seen downtown, stay in a city-owned barn on a leased land in rural New Hanover County.
Police officers assigned to the mounted unit are responsible for the care of the horses, including grooming, twice-daily feedings and cleaning the stables, said police spokeswoman Lucy Crockett.
