There will be no locked gates, but there should be no need for them because most county parks are only open from dawn to dusk, says Tara Duckworth, parks manager with the New Hanover County Department of Parks, Gardens and Senior Resources.
“We don’t have a locked gate at the boating facilities,” Duckworth says. “But most of the parks that are more passive and don’t have lighting are dawn-to-dusk parks.”
It would be dangerous to put a boat in the water without lighting, she adds.
“It’s awfully dark at those parks. It’s a safety issue because there’s not adequate lighting at those facilities,” Duckworth says.
Rules pertaining to all county parks are posted on the county website, www.nhcgov.com Site visitors can click on the “departments” tab and then on the “parks and gardens” tab to get information about the hours and rules in each park.
