Where can I find information on taxi cab fares?

Ken Little

All 155 W-numbered taxis operating in Wilmington charge by the mile and can charge a wait time for a number of different situations, such as when a driver waits for a fare shopping in a supermarket, says E.T. Bluford, the city taxi inspector.

City taxis cannot charge for time and mileage simultaneously, Bluford says.

Under a schedule of fares set by the Wilmington City Council, the meter commencement, or “drop rate” is $3. A charge of 35 cents is added for each succeeding one-sixth mile.

There is also a night surcharge of 50 cents per trip from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The wait time charge set by the city council Council is $20 per hour.

For further information, contact Bluford at (910) 343-3628.
