What restaurants are planned for Porters Neck Crossing?

Judy Royal

While construction has resumed on the Lowe’s Home Improvement at Market Street and I-140 and its opening is scheduled for later this year, there is no other news to report for the planned 350,000-square-foot shopping center, said Jimmy Black of Alliance Commercial Properties in Greensboro, which is developing Porters Neck Crossing with Pine Ridge Properties of Wilmington. There is a sign on the site directing leasing inquires to Black.

Lowe’s is the first phase of the center. The second phase includes three restaurants and a three- to four-story hotel on an outparcel, while the final stage is the balance of the shopping center. When reached via e-mail, Black did not specify a time table for the last two phases.

This would be a great location for Wal-Mart to serve the northern areas of Wilmington. I hope the developers will consider contacting them after Lowes is built. The Wal-Mart on Sigmon Road is getting too busy.

I am really hoping for a walmart here. I think it would be a wonderful addition to the Porters Neck area and it would do very well!

If the developers want to keep the retail development “upscale,” as they say on their website, then a Wal-Mart doesn’t really make sense. A Target would be a better fit, and the city could really use an updated Target. Not that Target is upscale, but it is more upscale than Wal-Mart. How about a Chipotle, too. And an Apple store. And a Trader Joe’s.
