In addition to her $300,000 salary, Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo gets a house, a car and membership to the City Club, all of which the university says is common practice for university chancellors.
The school chancellor is actually required to live in university-owned Kenan House on UNCW property, as it is used for the many events and dinners with students, alumni, donors and community members. DePaolo’s vehicle is provided on loan from a local car dealership because of the extensive travel required to attend meetings off-campus, and must be returned when she leaves or retires. The City Club membership is to allow DePaolo to entertain donors, alumni and other friends of the university.
This is all standard procedure across the UNC system and the nation, according to UNCW spokeswoman Dana Fischetti.
The chancellor does not receive personal laundry service or groceries, though Kenan House undergoes regular cleaning and maintenance as a university-owned building. UNCW police do not provide personal security for DePaolo, Fischetti said, but do have jurisdiction over all UNCW property, including Kenan House.
