What are utility crews putting in the ground around Leland? It looks like fiber optic cable.

Ken Little

Andi Curtis, spokeswoman for Time Warner Cable, says the cable company is installing a new hubsite in the Leland area to serve more customers because of the growth in the area.

“Time Warner Cable uses contractors to complete our fiber work, but they are required to have magnetic signs on their trucks designating them as TWC contractors,” Curtis says.

A number of other contractors also are at work or preparing to start work on a number of sites around Wilmington for different utility companies.

Jennifer Garifo, a spokeswoman for the N.C. Department of Transportation, said 57 encroachment agreements that include fiber optic cable have been issued for work along highway rights of way in the Wilmington and Leland areas.
