Mayfaire LLC, the development company for the site that mixes residential and retail areas, was unable to get a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers to build walking trails through wetlands, so the trails were dropped from the plans, according to Jamison Fair, senior planner for the city of Wilmington.
Mayfaire’s plans still call for soccer fields to be built in the final state of the project. Mayfaire also includes a numer of sidewalks and biking trails.

Am I the only one who sees the lunacy in this? I mean, permits were available to pave over all of those square miles where Mayfaire now stands, and to build all of those shops and restaurants and parking lots and such, and the “village” of hundreds of residences (and it appears that soccer fields can be thrown into what’s left), but walking paths are not permitted because they are bad for the environment? Jeez.
