NOTE: Updated Dec. 20, 2012.
The City of Wilmington recycles Christmas trees for its solid waste customers.
Remove decorations and lights from the trees and put them at curbside with any other vegetative debris on your normal service day for city yard waste crews to recycle. Do not place the tree near any storm drains, and be sure it does not block access to any sidewalks.
Remember to have all items curbside by 7:30 a.m. on your normal pickup day for service.
For more information, call the City Solid Waste Division at (910) 341-7875 or visit the Solid Waste page for more information.
For New Hanover County residents who live outside the city, recycling of used Christmas trees will begin the day after the holiday.
The New Hanover County Environmental Management Department asks residents to take their trees to one of three locations in 2012.
Residents can begin dropping off their used Christmas trees starting Dec. 26 at:
- Ogden Park (near baseball fields).
- Myrtle Grove Middle School, 901 Piner Road, Wilmington [Map this].
- New Hanover County Landfill, 5210 U.S. 421 North, Wilmington [Map this].
This program will last through January, with the last pickup being Feb. 6, 2013. Residents are asked to remove decorations and lights prior to drop off and to keep areas neat and orderly by stacking trees in a single row.
