Are there any plans to bury existing power lines in the area?

Patrick Gannon

Overhead power lines are ugly, for sure.

And yes, the city is working with Progress Energy on plans to bury some power lines in the downtown area. Specifically, the North Third Street streetscape project will include burying the overhead lines from Market Street northward to the Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, said Mike Kozlosky, the city’s senior transportation planner. That will cost about $1 million and could happen this year, he said.

Plus, power lines currently are being buried near the PPD headquarters in the northern part of downtown.
