What is that partially built dock at the old Babies Hospital near Wrightsville Beach?

Ken Little

There are actually two piers near completion or under construction on the grounds of the old Babies Hospital, at 7225 Wrightsville Ave., Wrightsville Beach [Map this], says Anne Hines, chief zoning enforcement official for New Hanover County.

One provides access to the Intracoastal Waterway and will eventually include up to 10 boat slips after applicable permits are issued, Hines says. The pier may be connected to residential units built on the site of the former hospital, which was demolished in 2004. The land is owned by Bailey and Associates Inc.

A second pier is being built on a pond on the property to serve as a kayak launch, Hines says.
