The school district would likely add bus routes, as it is planning to do with Ashley High School and Murray Middle School, according to spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum. Both have an overcrowding issue that will be addressed by the school district. Initial routes are based on the previous year’s numbers, and adjusted from there based on the numbers of students at stops and where they live.
The first ten days of school are always the trickiest, since it’s hard to tell from year to year how many students are going to ride the bus and when, Quattlebaum said.
Tweaking bus routes is a process that happens every year, especially in large school districts, according to spokesman Ken Nance.
“Estimating the number of buses is not an exact science, and we have to be very dynamic in making the adjustments to get the students to school during the first week,” Nance said.
