Why are there several large signs for the Castle Hayne exit off I-40 while there is nothing prominently marking the Rocky Point exit?

All signs point to…Castle Hayne? Is this a hot destination for motorists along I-40? Or is there a more practical reason for the signage hype?

The N.C. Department of Transportation has a routine it mostly follows for applying signage to interstate exits, but there is an occasional exception, according to Benjamin T. Hughes, assistant division traffic engineer for the DOT’s Highway Division 3. “Typically, we sign the next closest incorporated destination lying straight ahead on the crossroad. Rocky Point is not an incorporated town or city.  In the case with the signs for Castle Hayne, there was a lack of other destinations that could be put on those signs.”
