Whatever happened to Gene Motley?

Chuck Carree

UPDATE: Gene Motley still covers Chowan College athletics  and some high school sports for the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald . Shortly after he left WWAY-TV3, his mother passed away and he moved into her home in Ahoskie, where he continues to live.

Sports guru Motley left Wilmington’s ABC affiliate WWAY-TV3 at the end of 2006 after the station was bought by Morris Multimedia. He was the sports director and had been with the station since 1974.

Since 2007, the North Carolina native has been writing for the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald, covering sports in the Roanoke-Chowan’s four-county area in Northeast North Carolina. Read his recent stories here: http://www.roanoke-chowannewsherald.com/staff/gene-motley/

Gene actually left WWAY in EARLY 2006, not at the end of 2006.

    Mean Gene was TOP NOTCH!
I worked with him back in the 90’s and always found him to be one of the most solid newsmen in the station.

    Always upbeat, always professional.
